Michael BerenbauM

is the Director of Sigi Ziering Institute: Exploring the Ethical and Religious Implications of the Holocaust at the American Jewish University where he is also a Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies.

The author and editor of 24 books, he was the Executive Editor of the Second Edition of the Encyclopaedia Judaica.

For the three years, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. From 1988–93 he served as Project Director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, overseeing its creation and later founded its Research Institute.

Berenbaum was the conceptual developer of more than a dozen museums in the United States, Poland, Spain, Mexico, Romania, and North Macedonia. Most recently, he was curator of the award-winning special exhibition Auschwitz: Not Long Ago, Not Far Away. Winner, Grand Prix Prize, EEU, 2020.

He has been the producer, co-producer, executive producer, historical consultant, writer and interviewer and interviewee on more than two dozen films in multiple languages broadcast throughout the world. His work in film has earned him two Emmy Awards and films, which he has worked on have been recognized with more than a dozen Emmys have four Academy Awards.

A dynamic speaker, he is widely regarded as one of the most distinguished scholar of the Holocaust and antisemitism with an broad and extensive knowledge of Jewish history and thought.
